Subject: Live Hydraulics 1941 WC ?
Date Posted: 03 Aug 2011 at 11:27am

I just bought a 1941 Allis Chalmers WC and am looking for any help on buying and installing a pump for live hydraulics. I would like to put a small bucket loader on this tractor. I have a picture of a WC with a pump and hoses mounted on the right side and a belt coming from the pulley that would run a hammer mill, etc. I was wondering if anything may be available that would run off the PTO. This is only the second tractor I have owned, and am not very knowledgeable. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Ken

For a live hydraulic you would have to attach the pump directly to the engine.  Anything attached to the belt pulley or PTO is behind the clutch and would be affected by the clutch.
I have heard of it being done and in fact, I think there are some pictures on this site some time ago that worked it.
Perhaps others more knowledgeable than I on this can chime in.
Good Luck!

Niether the belt pulley or PTO are live. to get livve hydraulics you need to mount the pump to the engine driven by the crank pulley.

I see what you mean. Maybe I am thinking wrong. I am just looking for some sort of hydraulics in order to run a loader bucket and or plow blade I guess I would have to use the clutch and then the tractor would go into neutral. Maybe off the front where the hand crank is ?

one easy way is to have a "charlynn" pump mounted to the Pto.

Matt, he said he wanted LIVE hydraulics. It would have to be a front mount driven from the crank or a side mount belt driven pump. I have seen power steering pumps mounted off to the side like the generator and use the transmission for an extra reservoir.

I was thinking for the PTO I may mount a winch to skid logs. Everyone needs a good winch. If I can figure this loader deal out. This will be a good tractor for around my property.

Looks like it would work. I have to get some more education so I know what I am doing. I am going to buy a manual for my WC this week. Thanks for the info.
