I have two Allis G tractors.  The brakes on both of them are barely effective, and it is becoming hazardous.  I went through this some time ago, and what I learned is that there is a steel rod which attaches the brake pedal to the brake lever at each wheel.  At the wheel end of this rod, there is a threaded yoke, which may be used to adjust the brakes.  However, now the rod has reached the limit of its travel, and while I could cut the rod in order to tighten it further, it seems that might not be smart.

I'm wondering if it is time to reline the brakes.  Any thoughts?

OK. Any thoughts on where to source the needed parts, or would it be better to find a brake shop. Thanks!

Best to try the guys that advertise here first to check prices(including shipping...) then call a local brake shop and get a quote.

Whoever my grandfather bought his g from years ago did just that, cut the brake rod and welded it together. Once i put new linings on, i could barely get it threaded back on there as it was almost too short so i would not recommend cutting. I redid both of my linings in about 2 hours.

Tony's Tractors has em' in stock. Got em' for my G when I was restoring the back half of the machine. Get the brake hardware to. Mine was worn out.

Thanks for all the suggestions and pictures to boot!  I'll pick up a set of linings and take it from there.

By the way, what's involved in riveting the linings to the steel backing?  I assume I will need to find a rivet installation tool?  I've got a couple of rivet tools in the shop  - wonder if one of those will work....
