I went to the Rome, PA antique tractor show last weekend. I was a little disappointed that there was only three A/C's there, but one was a B that had been lowered. It looked great & would be much easier to get on & off of it, but I don't know how usefull it would be for real farm use. I talked with the owner and he said that he just unbolted the rear final drives, turned them 180 degrees and bolted them back on. To lower the front, he, basicly just flipped the axle upside down. Of course there was a little more work involved to do it, but it didn't look like anything major. He owns a body shop and had the tractor painted and looking like it just came off the showroom floor.
Regretfully......I forgot to take pic's. Sorry!
Has anyone seen this done before?

There were pics of this tractor posted last year. Don't quite know the desired outcome of the mod. Ground clearance reduced substantially so what could you use the tractor for? Moving airplanes around the tarmac? Farming clover? Maybe a new orchard tractor! The tractor was well restored so I suppose it wouldn't take much to restore to original height. ------------- Bob, North Carolina 1949 B |

| I guess it's been done before and we're talking about two different tractors, then. He told me that he finished it in late March, just in time for some tractor parade. That's probably the best use for it now.......or maybe just pulling a cart. |

Steve in IL. has a nice lowered B that he built. He made a straight axle for it up front, and it sits pretty close to my original IB in height. Pretty slick lookin' little bugger! I think mows his lawn with it... Maybe if he see's this post, he'll shoot a pic to us....

i was there too. actually there were at least 5 ac's there, i had my wc, the lowered b, paul's two d series tractors, and there was a wf in the pulls with me. while it may be a bit of a novelty, the lowered b was a top notch job. there's also a guy from the wellsboro area that has a lowered b, but he only turned the finals 90 degrees and it sits higher up. it was a tough day for me, my wc got bogged down in the mud on the track and we came home with our tails between our legs. just couldn't find the right spot on the track to keep from spinning out.....alan |

I never sold one and never saw a factory one but I do believe Allis Chalmers made a lowered B for Orchard Work before the IB came out.
I do not have my books available to confirm so if someone can I would appreciate it.
Must have been a great unit. If anyone has pictures would love to see them.

Dave, are the fenders on that Orchard B, WD fenders? They look taller than a B fender or am I dreaming? I like the look but a monroe seat rigged like a tail seat would be cool and easier to mount. I lowered my B as well. There are many pictures on here. When you flip the final drives you also swap them left to right and right to left.. This makes the brake levers face forward. I changed the angle on the lower part of the pedals and it works great. Any other questions please feel free to ask. |
