My WD-45 Diesel is having issues running hot 220-230ish! It wont stay there but it does hang in the 215-220 more than i like! Have seen when I am working it the thermostat seems to hang up and cause the temp to swing from overheating to like 170 then its ok for the day. It also seems to push coolant out when i change or add to the radiator but just to a point then it quits, is this part of my temp issue or just nature of the beast?

From what you describe I would change the T-stat.  Sounds like it is opening slow and not all the way.  Check the new one in some boiling water before you install it.

Run it without the thermostat for a day and see.

First thing to do is remove the cap and with it running fill the radiator to the top and look for signs of compression entering the cooling system, bubbles or coolant shoved out beyond the small amount that happens as the coolant expands when warming up.  If present you just found your overheating problem, or at least part of it.

I had a 45D do that and it was a head gasket.
