The d10 I bought this spring has a weak hyd pump. It is the small dist. drive pump, is there a heavy grade of fluid i can use for more pressure?? I took  the pressure relief spring out, It didn't have a shim or an adjusting screw. I thought it was supposed to have one or the other.  Thanks for any help Keith, So Va.

Heavy oil will do it but locks it up in cold weather. There isn't a good solution other than turning the pump fast and saving up for a new pump. When they wear, they leak and new gears in the gear pump don't account for wear of the housing.

Maybe the relief spring is weak? Springs do wear out. If you have machine tools handy, you might be able to regrind the ends of the gears and resurface the pump faces to get pressure back up to snuff.

Adding heavy oil to an engine to increase oil pressure  is a marginally successful trick, but doing so for a hydraulic system isn't.

As noted- a stuck open, or weak spring'd relief valve will do this, as will having a valve that is stuck in partial-bypass state.

IF you have a vane-style (variable displacement) pump, you're barking up the wrong tree... they don't work 'that' way.

You'd be better off to drain the system, clean out the reservoir and suction strainer, clean out any other filters, then run fresh fluid in, as that's more likely contributing to low pressure than anything else, and thickening the oil will make it worse.  If the suction strainer is plugged, it'll cause your pump to burn out.
