How long has it been since its been really worked? Did you check your coolant and oil levels and see if you have mixing? If it hasnt been worked for a long time and had a weak head or head gasket, that could be your issue.....first things I'd have checked.....when it rained did you have something covering the stack?

White smoke is water. I would guess the head gasket let go. Check oil level and water level.

A head gasket isn't that hard to replace. The only thing is making sure you get it on there right (I had to replace it twice).

Did you retorque the head after you put it together and ran it up to temp once? You might give that a try. After warming my diesel 262 up once and allowing it to cool overnight, it probably lost 1/3 of the torque spec. I cranked it back down to spec and after maybe 8 hours of run time, dry as a bone.
