I recently replaced the bottom kingpin and cup bearing on my 8050 mfd after losing one. I have run the tractor only on the no-til drill for about 60-70 acres and now the same, new, kingpin has chipped the holder plate and is above the keeper plate. What could have occurred to let it knock a chunk out of the keeper and get above it. I checked the pin after my neighbor replaced it for me (and the cup bearing) and everything was as it should be. The tractor has been in smooth, fit fields, and running at 1800 rpm in low 6th pulling the drill. The only thing different with the tractor lately is I put new rears on it, now the kingpin trouble. Is the likely culprit a problem with the top pin on that side, or shims maybe?

Both top and bottom kingpins have to fit tight (press fit) in the yoke. Also I think the top and bottom kingpins are a different length?? too long on the bottom could force the pin right thru the keeper plate??

I read that in my service book about the pin length, this time the pin went up though, it's above the keeper. I'm going to fix it, check my steering stops, change out one worn tie rod end and see if that helps.

Housing worn causing pin to move. Like Dr. allis said should be press fit. If not press fit it won't stay in. MACK

So is there a fix other than trying to find the "needle in the haystack" front axle parts? Could a guy loctite it, or sleeve it somehow?

I had a local welder make a jig to be able to mill/align bore the existing (and worn) holes oversize and press in a sleeve and then align bore them again to size. it can be done. They must be perfectly "in-line" with each other like camshaft brgs in an engine.
