I have asked this before and checked the load screw to make sure it is in the jet since it is on a flex screw and it is. Here is the set up, was diesel, took our 230 out of scraped A-2 stuck in there. I am using combine carb had muffler shop make intake tube from carb to air cleaner, same I/D as carb, I don't know if the gas one is in the same location? Could the intake lenght be to long? I know some engines it makes a difference. I have new air filter/plugs/wires/points, D-19 gov assy. It will use (sit down now)5 to 6 gal per hr pulling a 214 disk high 2nd, power is not an issue, this works out to abou 1 gal per acre. Also even planting it still uses about the same this would be high 2nd @ 1/2 throttle or high 3rd @ 1/4 to 1/3. Is this about right? BTW my fuel man likes me!!!!! Thanks Bill.

You sure you have a 230 and not a 262? I have the same setup in a D17, but it does not seam to be a gas hog. A friend of mine who is die hard Allis said he has made several this way and they were all good on fuel except for the wd 45 with a 262. Gas hog big time. Although you have to consider you are pulling taller tires to. My carb is a Marvel Shriber which could make a difference as well.

D19 gassers had bit of a reputation as a gas hog but, wow! Have you ever put it on a plow?

The tag says 230 I guess it is. As plowing goes I have a 4-16 snap-coupler semi-mounted will pull it fine in high 2nd but the diesel would handle it better just couldn't keep the head on it.

a gallon per acre is what i burn with my 262 no matter what I am doing with the 19 lol

Just used 5 gallons for plowing in a rough field. Started at 7:35 PM and stopped at 9:22 PM, just under 2 hours, I average 2.5 - 3 gallons an hour. This was about 2 acres had allot of small trees, shrubs and weeds. Allot of unplugging, some has not been plowed for years maybe never. D19 gas 262 , no fuel pump was told it has a combine engine pulling 4-14 about 8 inches deep full throttle 2nd high.

My Dad bought a new D19 gas in 1963. He would fill it up and go out to plow. He was nearly out of gas by noontime! It really used a lot of gas! Hated it.Traded it in for a new 190XTD as soon as they came out. Ran that one to 4000 hrs, no problems. Traded that on a 1970Ser III. The guy that bought that 1965 XT told me he ran it to 6800 hours without any problems or overhaul. D 19 Gas are fuel HOGS!

I grew up on a WD45 that was a diesel and Dad put a rebuilt gas 262 with I believe the biggest venturi available in the carb. I don't remember it being bad on gas and I never heard Dad complain about it. something else about that engine is it was rebuilt 30 years ago and got heavy use for 10 years or so until Dad quit farming. Still runs great just like when it was new and uses no oil. I would think most engines would be about ready for an overhaul. We run it 2000 to 2200,2300 sings right along.

My A2 Gleaner would burn a 40 gal tank in 8hrs shelling corn,which really don't load it that hard. There's yer 5 gal/hr

Every one thinks a D-19 gas uses a lot of gas ,try a 706 ,880 Oliver or some other brands of gas tractors and you may change your might. First of all the gas today is not made for these tractors and also the D-19 only held 23 gallon of gas.

Not sure about the exact fuel usage of the 262 in a d19, but as a youth discing with a gas 180 which displaces 265 cubes i never missed lunch or supper cause you had to go to the barn lot for gas every four hours or so!
