I'm troubleshooting an engine oil leak on our 180 diesel that has recently begun to leak at a fast enough rate that we're losing a few quarts of oil in just a few hours.
I've removed the tin and pressure washed the engine to get the oil off. Now with it clean I can see by running the engine that the leak is beginning between the head gasket at the front of the block and the water pump.
I've never torn into this engine past the valve cover so I'm flying a little blind, would there be a reason it could be leaking oil around the front of the head gasket or is the gasket between the block and the water pump more suspect?
Thanks for any advice, hopefully someone knows better than I do where the oil runs inside this engine so I won't need to tear into two areas looking for a leak.
Thanks,
Erik

It doesn't seem to be the valve cover gasket, although I have had leaks there before.
There is no oil dripping down the front of the head.
It's definitely coming from head gasket height on the engine.

Valve cover leaks on right side and fan pulles oil along headgasket to front to where you see it. MACK
