I've always liked the D series tractors, the white steering wheel and grill looked amazing But I really became a fan when i was looking for a tractor to use in a garden. My dad and grandad both have Cubs, but i wanted something different. A few months ago I saw a video of an Allis Chalmers B and I was hooked. Since then my future plans have grown from a backyard garden to a 50+ acre hobby farm. whats your story?

Grew up with them, had a few other colors, Fords, IH & a Case but nothing else comes close. I don't know what I'll replace the 8070 with when the time comes, (the 8050 probably has a home for life) possibly an orange AGCO if I can still get parts by then. LOL

It's the color dad was running when I decided to buy my own.  Had I been 5 years earlier, I'd be a red man (still kind've am).  5 years later and I'd be one of those MF guys.

It was what our family and relatives all farmed with. I remember when the local dealer would have a open house and we would see a slide show and got feed a meal. My little hands would grab as much literature as I could carry on the way out!! I'll give a shout out, that dealership was Sievers Equipment in Hamel, Illinois. Ryan

I got started at it at a young age. Grandpa had a Allis D17, a Massey Ferguson 50, and a John Deere B. I still have some of them and have every different color of machinery to go with them. As I have gotten older though I respect Allis Chalmers for their forward thinking and devotion to the people using their products. Allis was very innovative for the time and no matter what color of equipment people prefer they have to take their hats off to them for that. So that is how I fell for Allis.

My Maternal Grandfather and Uncle were AC dealers. That is all I ever knew growing up. I have a WD with factory power steering and a 45Diesel that came from his dealership, and quite possibly a second 45 Diesel that came from there.

Allis-Chalmers is in my DNA. Grandfather's first tractor was a 1929 20-35. My Dad's first was a WD, and my first was a D-21. Dealer was a distant relative and we went to the same church which was on the corner of our farm. I couldn't help it!

Born into it but my Dad wasn't. He grew up on Case (SC, DC, VAC) and Farmall (M, Super M, Super C) but in the 60's he bought a WC and thought it was so snappy. Then he bought a couple of WDs and really liked them. Then around 1970 he bought a WD45 and that sealed the deal. He was always impressed with the unrelenting power of the 45. Still holds the 45 as his favorite.

My grandpa farmed with them all his life starting with a little B back in the depression. His brothers went on to sell them at there dealership in Fletcher, OHio. Dad helped grandpa farm as he was growing up, they had 2 Cs one of which I have restored, a wd45 that I have as well, brother has the d17 series 4. I have heard many stories about the incredible performance these little orange tractors have. Dad said he once pulled 3-14s behind the C.  What sounds sounds better than a 45 or 17 working? JM

Grandad was an A-C dealer, after he passed away my uncle took it over. Though no longer an AGCO dealer, it now is owned by my cousin and sells other brands. The A-C sign is still prominent on the front of the building. I guess it's the only brand I ever cared to own.

I got hit from both sides of the family. My dad and uncle ran an AC dealership for farm equipment. My grandad on my mothers side did construction work, and he had an AC HD-21 dozer and several AC Motor Scrapers maybe AC 460's or something like that. I remeber the HD-21 when I was a kid. It was huge! For a kid what wasn't to like?

My Grandfather had a WD but he died when I was 6. When they sold the Farm & machinery in 1962 my Uncle painted my red Auburn toy tractor (it looked like a WD) AC orange, that did it even tho I learned to farm on my other Uncle's all Farmall farm. I still have my orange Auburn toy...Harvey

I grew up riding on the WD with my grandfather.  As a kid I even had a toy version of the WD I played with all the time....still have it.  I remember waking up to the sound of the Allis starting up and rushing out to the barn to see what he was up to.

I still have the WD and all of his AC equipment....what a great machine...what a great man.  Now as a grown man whether I'm working on or with one of my tractors or just going for a ride across a field I think back on the memories made years ago with that WD.

I'm just the opposite  I grew up in the city, always helped on the farms, got married,  horses were the only thing.  Bought a new 1971 cub cadet as the MAIN tractor worked OK until my son got tired of buying antique tractors for himself, so in 1995 I bought my first tractor a 1928 E-20-35 and since then it's been like a snowball going downhill 70+ and counting.     Now tell me there is no such thing as  ORANGE FEVER!!

Driving and stacking hay bales each summer behind a D19D. Nothing like the sweet smell of freshly baled hay, diesel, and the sound of the that turbo working under a heavy load. Also used a 185, but always preferred the D19. Brad

Dad had an 8N Ford that I ran for years. then he bought 2WDs to farm cotton with. I liked the 2 16 plows and the controls on them, and the fact they sounded so much cooler than the little Ford. I got hooked on them then, We had a neighbor down the road I'd aometimes run tractors for who had 2 WCs, 1WD 45, a D17, a D19, the 45, 17, and 19 were on LP, and he also had a D21 diesel. Later, he traded the 17 and 19 on a 190XT diesel. so i got a chance to run a LOT of A-C's as a kid. My grandfather gave me his old Case CC and D John Deere when I was a kid, and an ex-wife sold them while i was on the road trucking(part of the reason why became my EX-wife) I later bought one of the WC's I mentioned earlier, but moved to town and needing money, sold it. Can't buy it back now.

well i would say it's kind of in my DNA. growing i was only a john deere fan because that is all my uncles farmed with and grandpa was the biggest fan of.  plus my other grandpa was a john deere fan also. got a old wd45 for a pulling tractor when i was about 12 or so. i have been a fan of ever since both since. as time when on i learned that my grandpa's first tractor was a wc he help his brother inlaw farm with and used on the fruit farm. but also we have old movies of him pulling it at the fair back in the 50's.  my great grandpa that my grandpa later on worked for was a big ac fan and had many on his dairy farm. plus all that side of the family mainly has old ac's. when grandpa farmed he had many jd's and ac's on the farm. but also they had a little MF the cultivate strawberries with and other stuff with. this lead to me buy my first tractor for tractor pulling, which is a wd, about 5 years ago.

I grew up on a all JD farm near the largest JD ag dealer in the country in those days. I don't remember but one AC dealer and they were in an old school house about 90 miles south of us. I do know that in our area JD and IH were the main line then Case then MM. We did have some neighbors east of us that farmed with 2 190 xt's. The last time I was out there they still farm with them. To answer the question of the post my first tractor was a D14 and it was much better than any thing of any other color I had ever used. I always thought the wd was the best looking tractor ever made.

Like Allen, my experience was quite a bit different also. I wasn't raised on a farm, nor had any family members owning AC dealerships. I always liked anything Antique, and next to cars, Tractors were high on my list. I liked all the old timey Tractors, but the Allis Tractors stuck out more to me. I think just because they had more style out of the bunch. My real fedish for AC Tractors started about 10 years ago, when I bought and dragged out of the woods my Model B. Engine stuck, sheetmetal rusty, and lookin' pretty sad lookin', but it was something different than doing cars n' trucks, which I've been restoring for years. It was at that time that I actually owned an AC Tractor after all these years of looking at them at shows or in parades! After I got moving on the restoration of my B, ("Alice" my buddy Tom & I named her) that I got bit by the Orange bug! I now have 8 different models, and number 9 is coming down from Canada to my pal Fred's house. A WF thanks to Calvin!!  Sheesh! You could say, "I got the fever".....

With me it was not a choice.  My father obtained an AC dealership in the 30's - funny, I do not know the exact date - and we were into Allis Chalmers.  As you have heard we sold B tractors by the carload since they were new and fit right into our area.  It became my favorate but the rest weren't far behind.
Was sorry to leave in 1962.  If they had the compact tractors then I guess I would still be selling something like our friends in Lineboro, MD.
You know, I miss it every day.
Good Luck!

My grandfather had a WD45. It wasn't my favorite when I was little (I liked his Ford 960), but my dad, uncles and grandpa's neighbor always spoke pretty highly of AC tractors. So when I needed a relatively inexpensive tractor, I went Allis.

An Allis C was the first tractor that I would ground with as an eight year old kid. I really was an Oliver fan most of my life even though I bought an Allis C in 1961.  I traded that one on a quarter horse a few years later having only an Oliver 77 to farm with. My uncle was an Oliver dealer and my Dad kept two or three Oliver tractors. Later on I bought another Allis C that was in poor condition and rebuilt it.  After that I bought I two Allis B's that were in sad condition and the bug bit me.  I have since bought eight B's and 8 C's along with 3 CA's. I sold Butch one of my C's and a distant neighbor one of the B's and a closer neighbor one of the CA,s. Most all were in sad shape and more than half have became a parts supply. When I started bringing home the trophys with the C is when I really became a real fan and then when I started getting them with the B's I became a bigger fan. I guess i am a split 50/50 Allis Oliver fan. Would not want to be without eather brand.

Well  I started liking Allis Chalmers. Actually about 4-5 years ago. When I was younger I liked John Deere just because I like green and yellow (always will like green and yellow, its my school colors) but when I finally got my grandpa to let me drive his wd45. Then about 3 years later my mom bought me a wd for my 13th birth day. then 4 months later I got a wc. My first time driving the wd45 was great. About a week after that I operated a John Deere b and I found that I like the ride on a Allis better and later on found out that Allis was amazing. Well there is my story

1942...Dad had a WC and I thought it was the biggest, baddest tractor around. I envied him driving it all the time and me stuck on a lil JD "H" at the age of 8. Soon he got a WD and then another, and then another. He sure loved those WD's!

Dad bought the first tractor on our farm in 1947. It was a C Allis. In 1951 he traded it for a CA and farmed with that till he rented the farm out in the early 70's. He did buy a WD in the mid 60's that was rode hard and I used that to disc with. Most of my field work experience was with the neighbors John Deere's and another neighbor had 770 Olivers.
My first tractor was a 1940 A(1977), then I wanted electric start so I bought a 46 A. When I put a loader on the 46 so I could push snow, I decided I needed power steering and I found the 1954 WD45 that I have now. Sold the Deere and liked the 45 so much, I decided to drag the CA out and play with it. It had been parked for more than 10 years. I got it running pretty easy but ended up doing a valve job on her to help her breath better. One thing led to another, yada yada yada.

My dad had 2 allis chalmers G's for our garden. He got parts (an axle) for it from the local a-c dealer in Lineboro, Md. His pick-up truck got stuck in the field so he hooked the G to the truck to help get it un-stuck. He told me to put it in creeper gear and let the clutch out real slow...I did but nothing happened. The axle broke.

I have a CA and a 190xtd. Been working on totally rebuilding the 190xtd for about 5 years...geesh I need to get this thing finished.

p.s. my grandfather had a dairy farm 2 miles from where I grew up. I worked there every summer from when I was 12 years old until I was out of high school. They had all john deere equipment. B, A, 420, 630, 3020.

Both farms I worked on as a kid had Gleaners and mostly AC tractors and lots of Orange equipment.  My Grandpa had also bought a 170 with a loader for our place.  Never sat on a John Deere until I was 18 or 19, I had always been around the good stuff.  First tractor I drove was a D17.

Grandfather had AC. He had a CA, and my uncle bought an old WD with loader.
Later, my uncle bought a D10. I was plowing fields with that D10 when I was in 4th grade. Later, another uncle brought a D15.
All have been retired, and farm has turned green (uncle now has Deere).
I just got the old WD out of the barn for parts, and am getting a WD45 ready to start pulling with.
Grandparents have passed on, and a distant cousin lives in that house now. They own and pull Olivers, and park those Olivers where my grandfather use to park his CA and the WD.
I have  a point to prove at the pulls. I'm going to show those Olivers that the farm is still an Allis farm!

Dad bought a "C" Allis sometime before 1949 from his brother who was an Allis Chalmers dealer and that is the first tractor I can remember.  In 1952 or 53 he traded for a tricycle "CA" and in 57 he bought a second "CA" with a wide front so he did not have to take the cultivators off to put the mower on.  I bought a used "WD45" gasser in 72 and traded that and the tricycle "CA" for a 175 gasser in 1977.  I still have the Dad's last "CA" and the 175.  Dad and his brother are long gone, but a lot of memories.

When I was a boy of 5 or 6 years old we moved right beside a AC dealer , every day I walked through those beautiful orange tractors wishing I had one . When I got older I worked for all the farmers  driveing their AC tractors ,then I would go home and harness the mule and plow the garden. So I guess Ive loved them all my  life.

I was a born city kid, but I stayed out on my Uncle's farms growing up.  First Uncle I stayed with had Fords.  I was 6 or 7 at the time. After a year there I went to my other Uncle who had Allis-Chalmers.  He worked for Allis in La Crosse, WI and we (the boys) took care of the farming. We still used horses and the tractors too.  The first was a CA and the next a WD45.  I got to use the horses for my first few years and then the CA cultivating. (STILL hate that job!!)  Then the 45.  That sound still sends shivers up my spine.  We'd pull hay wagons up the hill along side the neighbors WD and WHAT a difference, hands down.  I can still remember though of using the horses to pull BOTH tractors out of spots.
When and if I meet some of youse guys at Dales this year, ask me to tell you the story about running away from home to go to the farm.

My dad and uncle owned an Allis dealership in the 50's.  I have vivid memories of county fair week when you spent two or three days moving tractors and equipment from the shop to the fair where a tent was set up.  During fair week you spent time from late afternoon to late at night meting people at the tent and living on fair food.  After the dealership closed my dad farmed with a 53 WD for several years.  I have the 49 G dad sold to my grandfather.  Sadly the WD got away.  The G keeps company with a D15, D10 and D12.

Grandpa started it all back in 1948 with the brand new WD. He did have a couple of red ones before that so I've heard. Dad still has the old WD which happens to be the same age as him. A couple of used WDs also came and went before the used WD45 which Dad still has as well. Then Grandpa went Oliver with a 770 for the 6 cyl and live PTO. When Dad was finally old enough to start farming with him, he convinced grandpa to buy the used 190XT which he also still has. Grandpa finished his farming years with an Oliver 1750. Dad never strayed from the orange. I can remember sitting on the 190XT's fuel tank nestled between Dad's seat and the fender while he worked the fields. On the way home, he would put me on his lap so I could "steer" while he kept bumping up the throttle. I grew up learning to drive on the old WD and WD45. Years later I was finally allowed to drive the 190XT. I recall being allowed to drive his trucks long before getting the approval to occupy the 190XT's seat by myself.

grew up in se MI in the 60s. i ate alot of cereal to get the orange plastic a/c model. cant remember which brand of cereal or what you did to get. i think you had to send in $3 + a box top or somthing like that. i do remember cking the mail every day and being so excited when it arrived. we had so many my brother and i would glue the rear tires togather and make duals and triples ,wish i would have kept them like so many other things.  most of the farms by us were red and my grandfather had a cub i drove everyday but the cereal model stuck with me sum 45 years later still love em.

I had one too, it was a D17. I know where one is close by (not Fred) and should have bought it when he wanted $200. for it. Last time I asked he thought he would keep it, just my luck...Harvey

Great grandfather, uncle, and Dad farmed with AC and John Deere.  Dad and uncle started an AC dealership that they had in the 60's and 70's.  Was an Allis fanatic from the beginning.

Dad started out with a Deere model A and it didn't take long before it was traded in for a WD45 before I was born.  That's the first tractor I drove.  It was orange from then on.
