Since I installed the used factory 3ph on my D17 IV, I have been looking for a good set of 3 ph, 3 bottom 14 or 16 inch plows. So far, I found a set of AC semi-mounted (don't know the model number), and also have found a nice JD and Case fully mounted, but I'm still looking.  I will have the traction booster hooked up and functional on the D17.

Ignoring the color for the moment, any general advice on advantages of semi- vs. fully mounted vs trailer, and are there particularly good models I should be looking for?  While I like the AC, the idea of being able to buy replacement shares and such seems to favor finding a plow with active dealers.  I had always heard that some of the older JD trailer plows were among the best ever designed.  I will need it to turn under trash when needed without plugging.

Any general advice would be appreciated.

One fact I might give you is that any plow other then a snap coupler plow can't be used if you want to use the traction booster feature. I currently am using a semi mounted on my D17 but it is because it was cheep. Also I might say that most any plow can get plugged once in a while.I have used about every kind of plow made and they will all plug once in a while if the trash is severe. Some one correct me if I am wrong for I have not used on but you might want to consider a disk plow. I would think they would be the best for the use you intend to use it for.

A semi mount plow in my opinion is a nicer plow to handle and set, its not as easy in tight quarters but out in a field I would prefer the semi mount. All colors aside any of the older plows AC, JD, IH Case Oliver etc all did a good job, but if you want the king of plows find yourself a White.

He's using a FACTORY 3 point.  Allis factory 3 points do indeed have working traction booster systems.  I agree many aftermarket 3 point systems do not allow the traction booster to work.  Mike

I've always heard that Oliver's Raydex plows were supposed to be the easiest to pull. If I remember correctly Dean Byerly told me that when he worked for Brubaker's in Prairie City, they ended up putting Oliver bottoms on an A-C plow to satisfy a customer.

Plowing of trash is a pain, wish I had a good answer to that one.  I had to stop four times today just to dig out blackberries roots and stems, only a small patch about 20' long.  Getting ready to try and plow about two acres of spotty patches of blackberries, going to disk them first and then plow, see if this helps.  I'll be posting pics of the plowing and what I have learned about SC plows and what has worked for me, and or ask about any other ideas, we have about 20 acres of that type of ground to reclaim over the next few years. From small trees to all types of berries and weeds. I would no-till corn, but don't have a planter and no-one close enough willing to plant it.
