I found this article in Life Magazine about a the Strike in 1947. They were a tough bunch!! I can't believe 55 million total in lost money, wow, thats gotta be a bunch calculated to todays dollar.
On a side note, thats a dang good photo of a factory stock "C"!! haha

This is the strike that killed Allis Chalmers.
Right after WWII we could have sold anything. That year we got 6 tractors. Most of them C's. Other dealers were getting full carloads of everything. Yes, we were getting combines and implements, but as a dealer if you do not have tractors you do not sell.
Loyal customers ended up buying John Deere, Farmall, and other equipment.
The sales and the profits lost because of this account was the root cause of the failure of Allis Chalmers. Just before WWII Allis Chalmers was in third place in the farm equipment industry and growing. After this the best we could do was a fifth at best four. Walt, the author of the Plow Peddler also agrees with this.
This was not a CIO strike it was a Strike by a Communist Controlled branch of the CIO. Their aim was to severely damage a US industry. They succeeded.
