Sometimes it just doesn't pay to paint stuff. My generator worked before I took it apart for brushes and bearings. Somehow, I managed to kill the armture electrically. Now what? The same armature is in the D15D and '57 Chevy with P/S...

Brushes sticking in the brush holder? Did you sand the brushes to fit the commutator? Did you connect the brush wires? Is a long brush wire hitting the case?

No, brushes are good. The amature is shorted. Jacobs in Newton was able to find me a new one. When I tried to motor it, it would jump back and forth before spinning slowly and drawing about 50 amps.

I know what you mean about the paint!! I was working on my daughters Triumph Spitfire the other day and cleaned up and painted the perfectly functional starter while it was out. After re-installing it, it no longer would work!!

I buffed the paint off where it shouldn't have paint, (including the commutator bars) still didn't work. Makes me glad i didn't take the starter apart. They called and and it's ready to go. Now the weather isn't cooperating. High temps in the upper 80's and low 90's earlier this week. Now it's not supposed to go past the upper 50's....
