I had posted questions a few months ago about troubleshooting a power director on a 180. I never found the test ports under the right hand floor board. I did take the relief valve apart several times in the PD valve body with no change.

Tonight I added a nut and some washers under the relief valve spring to raise the pressure for troubleshooting purposes only. As I was tightening the relief valve nut, I heard a "pop" in the valve body. I started the tractor and hydraulic oil started spewing. The line from the pump to the PTO valve spawned a split. I removed the line and brazed it up. I also removed the "shims" I placed in the relief valve.

After installing the line I decided to try the tractor out. I can now stall the tractor out in 4th gear with the brakes. If I have it throttled up and if 4th gear and engage the PD into high or low I can pull the front tires off the ground 12"-18". I'd say I "fixed it". Seems the relief valve spool was stuck.

I am curious as to how much pressure is in the power director circuit now that the relief valve in the high/low valve is freed up. The AC shop manual says to test at the two 1/8" plugs at the PTO valve and gives recommended pressures at these ports.

Everyone I have talked to says there are test ports (1/8") at the block under the right hand floorboard by the parking brake pawl. Maybe this is on later S/N tractors or on 185's. I cannot find the plugs on my 1968, S/N 5000 180.

The reason I want to check the pressure is the parts book shows 1 shim under the spring. I have 4 shims under my spring (OEM shims). The service manual says that each shim is good for a 15 psi gain. Are 4 shims normal?
