| Just picked the B that I bought at auction a couple of weeks ago up tonight and by the serial number it looks to be a 1947. Is it possible by some slight chance that someone could have special ordered a C front under it or more realistic just a good cobble job. I would like to think it could be special but am ready to accept the reality that those dont exist like the mounted pickers for them dont either. |

They were home made. A B with a norrow front is an accident waiting to happen.
The rear is too narrow to support a narrow front. It can tip very easily. Bob

I think a narrow front would B very handy for a belly mower tractor. I also think people believe and depend too much on what a wide front will do. Since a wide front pivots, you have to get to the stops for it to do any good at keeping you upright and I don't want to see a side hill where I find one side of the front axle is at the stop. I have talked to people that will sware that Allis shipped some on special order from the factory. I bought one that was supposed to be factory and when I switched torque tubes I found that it had had a lot of hours with the wide front before the narrow front was put on. After looking at several other narrow front B's I am sure that Allis Chalmers had nothing to do as all have some slightly different steering set ups. In my humble opinion I think they were switched sometime after they were well used as a wide front.

I love it! People that have never owned or operated a narrow frong B's are the experts in the practicality and safety of one. My narrow front B has the B steering box with the C drag link and front.    Here it is taking first place away from two Averys, a General and a Farmall.

It is funny how all these folks swear by a wide front and they will never roll over!
Wonder why it is all the utility tractors sold now are wide front, but they have ROPS!?!?!
If you don't exceed the limitations, a tractor will not roll over. If you exceed the limitations wide or narrow, it will roll!

Easiest way to do it is split the tractor at the tranny and bolt up a C from there forward. Now if you want one with the B engine and no starter, that will take more work. Some day I will do my single front B, with duals! ------------- ALLIS EXPRESS! This year: |
