i know this subject has been thrown around before, but can the wd 45 gas and diesel use it in the differential, transmission and the hydraulic pump?what effect would it have on the 50 year old plus seals.dont know what the load bearing quality on the older gears would be also is the newer fluids synthetic or petroluem based or possibly ester based...thx all...

It would be good for hydraulic but NOT transmission which takes gear oil 80-90 I believe.

Use it in hyd, trans and rear end. Much better than the 75 year old design of 80W. No reason to use 80W with today hyd wet brake oils.  MACK

I've often wondered about using hy-tran in autos to semis in the differentials and manual transmissions.Currently using 50wt in the Fuller 13spd(as recommended) I'd almost bet the 440 with a Fuller used 820 in trans...maybe not?

I put hy-tran in my WD in everything except the final drives, really shifts and runs smooth. I put 85-140 gear oil in the final drives, the thicker the oil the quieter they will be.

I've used it in both D-14s for the past 8-9 years.Sure makes it easy to 'top up'.Same stuff in every hole!Cept engine and finals,of course.

I had a Honda CRV all wheel drive and at about 40k the viscous coupling in the dif started making noise when turning sharp. supose to use some special fluid (very expensive) I put UHTF low temp in it and the noise went away, drove another 50k and sold it.

AC Lube Charts dated 1971 show PF821 in Trans/Diff/Hyd Sys, only compartment using gear lube is final drive.

If it can be used in the tractors of today, running from 100hp to 3 or 4 hundred, why would it hurt in a 50 year old tractor with 30-50 hp?
I've had it in the tranny of my45 since I replaced 3rd gear right after I bought the tractor in 1980.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but by 'hi tran oil', do you mean something like Permatran 821XL?

Yes, many refer to it as hytran or transdraulic fluid because it is used in hydraulic systems and transmissions. The 821 is a spec that Allis recommended for their later tractors.

My dad kinda was thinking something similar. We had work done on our 1950 WD and the dealership put hytrans in the rear. My dad thought that after running the thick stuff all the tractors life maybe the thinner hytrans would cause the old seals to leak!! Considering the tractor gets maybe 20 hours of use a year It wouldnt have bothered me but the ol man still the boss!! Ryan
