Does a WD45 with a D17 kit have the power to run a 7 foot finish mower? the electric PTO on the POS LT1050 cub fried and I'm tired of the trouble. I have five acred to mow, thinking of puting a finish mower on the 45 and found a nice Caroni 7 footer for  $750.

Well according to the Caroni website, a new 93" finish mower takes 45-60 PTO HP, since your's is probably mechanically identical or very near it, I would say you should be ok, since you could knock off a couple HP for shorter blades.  You may not be able to mow tall stuff in road gear, but I would bet it would be a decent match.  That is a rear mount, not sure if you were thinking front or rear, but it shouldn't change much.  HTH

Id say it would for sure, depending on how often your mowing. We use a 6ft bushhog on a WD45 it works great unless the stuff is taller than the radiator. A 7ft finish mower should pull easier than a 6ft bushhog.

Ihave a 5ft Caroni that i pull with my B  and it does ok in stuff up to about a foot high .You have twice the h p  so it should be fine  keeping it cut regular.

My little B runs a 5 ft finish mower, and you have more than twice the HP, seems like it ought to do it.

I am sure it will work, just how fast is the question. With no hi lo you will be using the hand clutch in the heavy stuff.I use a 6 foot woods finish mower with my D-17's.Seems to do real well unless it gets tall.I have had to use 1st low when it gets out of hand.

If you're really finish mowing grass and not mowing tall grass or weeds, you'll be fine.  I mow my grass with a 72" front deck mower that only has a 20 hp air-cooled Kohler on it.   Of course the grass never gets over 4-5" tall.

I have mowed with a 6 ft Farm King on my CA unless the grass is over about 10" it works fine.  I put the same mower on a WD45 and it still only mows about 10" grass befor it can't discharge fast enough and just clumps it up.

Biggest thing with finish mowers is getting rid of the grass. The Woods finish mower with a rear discharge seems to work the best for getting rid of excess grass and not taking a lot of hp to run. Guy at work is running a 90" woods with his Ford 2000 and he runs the whole rig hard, and it takes it. Your 45 shouldn't have any issues.

I have a 7 foot Landpride finishing mower that I run behind a D17IV. The tractor has all it wants to pull mowing a lawn. Mowing anything over 6 inches tall is out of the question unless you want to be inching ahead with the power director. Mowing weeds or brush should not be considered with a finishing mower.

Weeds and brush are out of the question, yes, but that's not what a finish mower is designed for anyway. I mow my 5 acres with a 7' Kingkutter on my WD, and have for years. Works perfectly.

I run a 6' finishing mower with a D-12 III with lots to spare. I also run a 6' brush cutter with a D-15 II with no problem.

I pull a 6 ft. finish mower with my D14 and have power to spare. If you are really "finish mowing" you should have no problem regarding horse power.

I dont know what kind of finish mowers you guys are running, but dad has a 7ft Woods behind a 1720 Ford Jap diesel and I can mow in 9th (out of 12 gears) with it.

The differemce is the diesel. When I got my first diesel tractor I couldn't believe the difference it made.
