Any one know of a good source for new disks for my #78 planter row units. Agco is a little high priced on em. They are 13 inches, and the bearing has a 5/8 hole for the mounting bolt. I would like to find them as a complete assembly (the bearing already riveted to the disk). Thanks, Darrel

As stupid and backwoodsy as this sounds, we save the take-offs from our Great Plains No-Till drills. When they get worn down to about 13" or so, they need replaced on the drill, and they bolt right up to the AC Planter. If you have a friend or neighbor with a similar drill, you could get back in the field a lot cheaper.

I went up to the neighbors and got some he took off of his Kinsey (spelling) planter.He took them off to soon,most of them are bigger then 13 in,bolt size is the same,looks like they will work.I haven't tried them yet.Maybe I will be able to find some 13 in or smaller. HTH Bill

maybe you can just re-adjust your planter depth and still use the bigger disks!

Or bolt them up in a lathe and turn em down to what you want. As long as you got some carbide tooling, it shouldn't take but a couple minutes a piece.

On my 3pt planter that had #77 units on it, I put 13 1/2 in. great plains disks on it, and they worked by bending the little pointed guard on the front of them. I tried to take them off of it (cause it went through a fire, and I don't use it anymore) and put them onto my #78 units, but they are about 1/8 to 1/4 in too big, and the pointed guard can't be bent on the #78's. Too bad I didn't use it for one more season before it got in the fire, then they would have been worn enough to work! Maybe C Tucker's idea of putting em in a lathe and turning them down would be an option, cause the discs and bearings are like new, and they didn't get hot enough in the fire to hurt anything. Darrel
