I was looking at a ca at my nearest Agco dealer yesterday (60 miles away) and seen a number stamped into the edge of the bell housing and figured it was the serial number, for it is the same spot as my d17. but looking at it today I realize maybe I wrote down the wrong #. what was this number for and what if any info does it provide? The number was   CF 161742 PA. Obviously no serial number I have ever seen  but can a date of manufacture be gotten from this? Any info Appreciated.

That would be your engine number if it is on the flange of the engine, the number seems a little odd as it is a CF, not a CE, CF could be power unit, the PA at the end usually stands for High compression

The CF was kind of hard to read, but I thought that's what it said. But admit I've been wrong before. It was about as rough as they get except for the sheet metal even had a radiator shutter on it but they wanted $1200
