Are there any spacers required under the mechanical fuel pump? Is there a good alternative to factory fuel pump? One that will not flood carb out? Is there a vacumn port that would run a new style vacumn pump?Any help appreciated. Tracy Martin

Tracy - I have put 3 fuel pumps on these tractors. I used a Facet Automotive electronic fuel pump. Just under $50. Be sure to get the low pressure - (3 to 5 lbs I think). I mounted it high just above the oil cooler with a bracket under the tank strap. Have had no problem with flooding yet. I left the old pump in place and plugged the fuel lines. The instructions suggest tapping electrical into a low oil pressure switch so the pump will stop when the engine stops. I just put a line on the coil and it runs when key is on. Not sure that is a good idea but what I did.

Joe O said there were kits for the old pumps but I have not found or priced them.

I think the source was Cummins Engines of Springfield or Kansas City, have ordered parts from both.

I have the weakest Facet on it.Even have a pressure regulator too. Can't depend on it not over flooding while running. I wish there was a better alternative than the mechanical nightmare pump. I think I might put a TEE in the line and return it back to the tank. That should leesen the likelyhood of flooding. Thanks for the responses. Any help always appreciated. Tracy Martin

Tracy - My tractors have that T just before the carb. I think original equip. Anyway, yes you would need that to relieve pressure so the float would shut off before flooding the carb.

By the way - they don't run well if you reverse the lines from the tank. Don't ask how I know this.

I also found that the load needle may need adjustment now that you have a lot of fuel - Mine was set way rich maybe because not enough fuel as pump was failing. ?? It ran OK but under load it would blow black smoke and almost quit.

I wonder if one of the electric pumps made for a Onan generator would work without modifications? Where is D17 Dave when you need him? He is the guru of these tractors.I bet he has seen every setup imaginable. Tracy Martin

i don't think u have a fuel pump problem,it sounds like the carb needs leaning out,my 620 is very fussy on starting and will choke off if you don't do it right,i always thought they had to weak spark,and considered adding a MSD blaster ignition module,but i don't know enough that i won't fry everything.
