I had a good week In Milwaukee last week. Got to meet Dale Hardtke and see his collection, got to visit the old AC plant grounds, best of all to meet the man himself, Norm Swinford. Got some books signed by him too. had a 2hr conversation with him and his wife Betty on Allis Chalmers. thank you Norm.

Is the Erection building and the shopping mall the only buildings left ? Was any farm equipment built in the erection building ? Are any of the tractor shops left ?

It is always a pleasure to meet MR SWINFORD. I was pleased to meet him at the "Coming Home" GOTO in Union Bridge a few years back.
With my father we toured that plant several times. The erection shop was where the generators - steam and water turbine - were assembled. We would walk the balcony and watch. The cranes were astounding.
Quite a view. Thanks for sharing.
Good Luck!

You can see the plant grounds from the east building of the hospital I work at. Only a couple of miles away at most as the crow flies
Interesting to see the map of the grounds; had never seen that before.

ReGenco still goes by that name, but I believe they have been purchased by Toshiba.

Anyone who thinks any company is safe from failure need only look at how mighty AC was at one time. Not the saddest story but truly is one of the saddest industrial stories I know.
Thanks for the pictures.

In 1986 I was going to Deutz (yuk) school at the training center, one evening we drove up to West Allis and went by the plant, you could see the torches cutting the iron and piping out of the shops that were being demolished, it was winter time, what a sad sad time it was. I wish I wouldve taken pictures at the 05 parade thru the erection hall but it was raining and dark and I was haveing to much fun visiting with the guys who were workin for Regenco!!!
