is there some kind of trick to get pivot pins out?

my right side had a bolt with an pin though it, little work and it came out.

left side no luck yet.

best way to clean out housing?

I haven't done it yet, but the best way to clean it out might be to remove the housing from the tractor. Then you can replace pinion shaft seals too.

if the old brake bands are junk [most are] cut loops off the pins with a torch [this will give you room to work on pins] put some pent. oil & heat on the castings by the pins tap pins with a hammer & twisting with vise grips & a few kind words they will come out. take a peice of small copper tube bend a 90 on it flatten one end a little [this will act like a nozzel] adpt. it to your power washer wand it will let you clean be hind the brake drum and axel housing with remuveing it.

I used all kinds of things to clean the grease and mouse nests out of mine. Charlie probably has the best idea. Take the final off. That way, you can replace the seals and all the other good stuff in there. I would also recommend installing some kind of plug the the little critters wouldnt eat through, so they wouldnt build any more little condos in your tractor. As long as you will be keeping it inside, this should not cause a problem. Just keep them where they can still be removed for cleaning.

As for the pins, use plenty of penetrant(Kano or ATF/Acetone mix). I used a brass drift on mine. I actually bent it slightly, so it would get in the holes from the inside, and they eventually drove out. Works better if you're not in a hurry, and can beat on it some, then walk away and let soak. It will come out better, and you'll be less tired and aggravated. Good luck.

some one before me 3 years ago blasted this tractor, so i'am still getting sand out as i go.
