Hello,

Today I finally mounted the coulters on our 3-14 Oliver plow. The blades are in various stages of wear and they all need to be replaced. They are the type with a 4" center hole, 5 1/4" 4 bolt BHC and I believe were 15-16" when new.

We will be using this plow to open ground that has not been worked in over 20 years, we need the coulters to do a good job cutting through small roots and whatever else will be in a field that hadn't even been mowed in over a decade previous to the last two seasons when we've been bush hogging the ground.

I saw that Agri-Supply has quite the selection, what would work best for our situation?

Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Erik

Is there a lot of trash build up on top?  I have heard guys swear by the dish shaped coulters but really don't know what would be best. I've never had any trouble with a straight coulter in sod but I've never plowed anything with a lot of matted grass clippings either.

There's not too much trash on top, we mowed the field down two year ago and what was on top has decomposed pretty well. It was more than grasses in these fields, we mowed down bushes and small trees, some over 10' tall with +2" trunks.

I'm more worried about root mass in the ground causing problems.

Thanks for the reply!

I know from trees :) I have been mowing my Wildlife habitat CRP ground almost every year because burning the grass off doesn't touch the mulberry trees. I might need to know your experiences in a couple years when I can get back out of the program. I have regular straight coulters on my SC plow for the 45 and they'll probably do just fine.
