My book shows 7:1 and 5:1 plus different side gears for standard (WC104285 and up)and hi traction (prior to WC104285).

I'm confused. The book shows 7:1 ratio with 7 teeth and 32 teeth which comes out to 4:57, 5:1 ratio with 5 teeth and 33 teeth which comes out to 6:60. The math doesn't work unless the ratios are including a change in ratio from different side gears?

The transmission gears/ratios are the same between a WC and straight stick WD because the transmissions are essentially the same, just located in a different spot on the chassis. Ring and pinion and final drive ratios would be different between WC's and WD's. If you notice, AC had this thing about 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears always being the same ground speed (2 1/2- 3 3/4- 5 mph) at rated eng speed and standard rear tire sizes. The WC was rated at 1300 rpms and the WD was at 1400 rpms yet each had the same ground speeds with different eng speed and rear tire sizes. The only real change came with the bent stick WD and WD45 which had 1st gear slowed to 2 1/3 mph and 4th gear faster that it's predecessor. D17's continued the trend even with the engine rated at 1650 rpm speed.
