I have been using my electolysis tank for a couple months now.
My question is: what is the black stuff on the parts that come out of the tank?
I scrub with Schotch Bright and it is still has a lot of the black stuff on it.
I don't think I would want to prime with the black stuff still on the part.
So, looks to me like I still need to bead/sand blast to get ready for primer, if so what is the point of the electroysis?

Electrolysis turns red rust into black oxide, a non reactive harmless substance. It can be painted over when it dries, but it's better to wire brush and wash it off with soap and water before prepping for paint. Get off what you can and paint over the rest. Electrolysis is still useful because most blasting will not get tough rust or lime scale off as cleanly or in places you can't reach.

if it's not all coming off with a rub of the scotch pad, you may want to get a soft fine brass bristle brush. You may also need a bit more time cooking, should come off with little to no effort. The best reason to use it is that it's working while you do other things (like work) and it does no damage to the parts. I usually pull my parts after about 12 hours give them a quick brush and back in the soup for a bit more time. Got to love any system that will clean and de-rust parts gone this far!

Ok, thanks for the info.
Next question is: can the part be left in the tank too long?
If so what would happen?
Thanks, Bill b

its a chemical reaction with the rust . when that is gone, the reaction stops. you can leave steel parts in the fluid for a week, will not hurt.. Dont leave aluminum or similar in the tank.

Like them all, but love the "B"s.
