I should be getting my new to me 5040 delivered today.  i want to do an oil change before putting it to work. I see on the Nebraska test is was shown as straight 30 weight.  Would 15w40 be better? I use WIX filters in all my stuff and would like to use them with the 5040, unless someone has a better suggestion.

Thanks

15/40 will be fine.

I run 15/40 Motorcraft oil in my 1966 Case 930.  Rotella is another good oil, but motorcraft tends to be cheaper at Walmart.  I use NAPA (Wix) filters.

There is a 10w-30 diesel rated oil specified by Ford for the 6.7. They recommend 15-40 in them if you run bio diesel. The owner's manual for my D17D says 20w up to 90 degrees. 30w for higher ambient air temps.

Yes, 15w-40 would be fine.  A good synthetic 5w-40 like the Mobil 1 diesel oil would be even better------especially if you start it often.
