On our 190 xt if you put it into 7/8 gear it will sit there and grind, but if your driving it and shift it into 7/8 it will be fine. What could be the problem? Thanks

Are you saying that if the tractor is running and you climb on and push the clutch in and shift it grinds? Do you give it a few seconds so the transmission stops spinning? Could be that the fingers on the clutch aren't being fully depressed by the throwout bearing. Dad's 190 had the fingers ground down from a bad throwout bearing and you couldn't shift it without grinding so it got a clutch job.

On mine I usually have to let the clutch out a little for it to go into gear if it is sitting still. If its rolling it goes right in gear.

Hi AC,
Lonn is on the right track. Sounds like the transmission is spinning.
Try this next time: put it in reverse,(hopefully w/o grinding), and immediately out of reverse and into 7/8, aka 4th.
Is your engine at idle, or idling fast? This sometimes makes a difference in how easy it goes in. High idling/fast engine speed, I've noticed, makes the "grinding" into gear. You might try slowing it to idle or so and see what that does.
See if it drops right in without the grinding. HTH. Jim
