The governor had not been working - ordered some new parts - the item that goes between the weights and the fork, is this suppose to have both ends spin free from the center? Not a good description but with the experts out there I sure someone knows what I'm referring to. I had to pull the MAG and got to thinking - there is a timing issue - can it only be half off if the gear has not been disengaged? ------------- Texas B 39 |

No. If you can hold one end and spinn the other it is as should be. When the flywheel (CENTER) or (TDC) line is in the center of the inspection hole the drive slot for the magneto should be horizontal.

| Yep. The blasted loader beam is covering up the inspection hole. Never heard of a blasted loader. Must be pretty rare. |

| You will need to bend a bout a 3/4" end of a wire 90 degrees and fine the number one(front) piston on its way up on the compression stroke. put the wire in the plug hole and watch for the movement up to stop and start down. Best I can tell ya unles you ditch the (blasted) loader. (:^D |

Texas B, Don't forget the finger in the no 1 cyl hole to time. That will get you very close. In fact, till I got on this site that is the way I used to time all tractors.

will do the wire trick - fun part is, can't crank by hand as the hyd pump is on the front of the crank - some where down the road they brazed a double pulley on the front of the main pulley. Goin to be up a creek if the front seal leaks. That is what started part of this, the hyd belts got some oil on them and burn off before I could shut it down. Could not take the loader off to do other work.

If you have a PTO you can move the engine with the pto in gear. Not the best way but you can do it in a pinch. I used to turn PTO to raise a mower when the engine died. Sure you can do it this way. May take two though.

Does the B have a thermostat? Got a need temp guage, guess what - the copper piece stayed in the housing - drilled it out with a 3/8" and with 1' inch to go the bit grabbed the sleeve and pulled it out. that worked but the o-ring on the new guage was split. But not thermostat in there any where. I do have the PTO and a small pulley drive off the side. Will give one of those a try. Need to put new plugs in anyway.
Has anyone had trouble getting water in the air breather oil bath? if it is outside in the rain it fills up - guess it just wants in the shed. ------------- Texas B 39 |
