Will a bad lift pump leak fuel into the crankcase? My oil seems pretty thin....

Don't know how yers is built but any transfer pump bolted to the crankcase can develope a leak in the diaphram and put fuel in the oil.Ain't that a Perkins?

Yes it is a Perkins...and the engine ran fine. In fact, I took it off and like a dummy pressed the lever while watching to see if there might be a leak and got a face full of diesel which shot out of the pressure port, DUH! Put one from my parts tractor on and changed the oil....I guess I will see how that one works. Is there a way to know for sure if they leak?

Yes Common with them. They can leak fuel into motor before they quit pumping! Put a new one on it and it will be good for long time.

And to test you would need fuel supply hooked to it and pump it manually.

When ordering a new one you will need to know if it attaches with 3 bolts or 4.  Bill
