any one know of the site you can go to where you put in the serial number, to determine if it is a WD or a WD45?

Thanks.

Tractor data is a pretty good one if I remember correctly.

Lots of other ways to tell too. Curved shifter. Plate on the side of the engine block. Oil lines are different....

I bought a WD45, has curved shifter (which I was told is not too reliable), but has short heads like a WD.
What is that plate on the side of block, left or right, front, center or rear?

The plate is on the right side and covers pretty much the whole side of the block. If it has the plate it is a WD engine.

What is the serial number?  WD45 started at WD146607.

Some of the later WD's had curved shifters. I find the plate on the right side of the block is the quickest way to tell.

Like Dan said the WD45 started with serial number WD146607. Engines may have been changed over time so you could have a 45 with a 201 engine or you could have a WD with a 226 engine. There is a serial number reference page on this site. http://www.allischalmers.com/serials.html - serial number reference page here

Numbers listed prior to the D series tractors are the last number used, in that year of production.

I have looked at that chart before and have never understood why there is an entry in 1954 for the WD, there were no 1954 WD's.

The 1953 WD had serial numbers WD131243 through the last one WD146606.

The first WD45 was in 1953 serial number WD146607 and 1953 WD45's went through WD160385.

I have a 54 wd, it was in a shed since 62 and the engine was torn down and he sold the fenders and rear wheels and tires but it is a 54 according to the serial # and is a wd, not a 45 he told me he bought it new and the engine was the original one, it has the plate and I believed the guy when he told me the engine was original, he also worked at an allis dealership most of his life

So what is the engine serial number and what is the tractor serial number? Was this guy the same one that sold you the "original" electric start unstyled WC that was never built?

different guy, another guy was over a few weeks ago and did say that his grandfather was a dealer back in the wc days and they did offer electric start on the later unstyled but the cost was close to 60 dollars but there wasnt a person that bought it atleast at his dealership.  I wasnt alive in 37 or for that matter 54 so I cant say either way about the electric start for the unstyled or for the 54 wds but I do know that everywhere is says that there is a 54 wd by serial #s and the one I got is dated as a 54 but it really doesnt mean too much to me as I said it was drug out of a shed a few years ago for scrap price,.  I do know however that allis made almost anything you could emagine and people say all the time they didnt make one of those or didnt do that at that time but unless you worked there and were involved in everyaspect  which would be imosssible no one can say for sure.  Just like my father and uncle argued with me years ago that Bs didnt come with starter or foot brakes, but we all know they did, but when they were younger my grandfather and great grandfather had countless #s of Bs as well as my dad and uncles and not one had foot brakes or starter, so just by going by what they saw they were sure they didnt make them until I drug in several from the mid forties and after.  And lastly I see on occasion something with allis markings  that seems to be allis but cant find any info in any book or on the web  but as I said that doesnt mean they didnt make it but mabe they didnt and someone just wanted to build something and tag it allis kind of like the golf stuff fred has like the caddy and so on,
