Hello all, thanks for the forum, its hard to find answers for this stuff else where on line.  I have a 1980 Allis Chalmers 5030 and I am about to drive 1.5 hours out to buy a Allis Chalmers "66" tiller sight unseen.  My question is that all I can find online is photos of manuals listing a Allis Chalmers 5020 tiller model "66", is that due to a gear box limit of under 26 hp?  or can it handle more hp?  Thanks to all who can help.

I'm not familiar with the Allis tillers but if they have a slip clutch on the PTO input shaft you don't need to worry about horsepower going in as you'll slip the clutch before breaking anything if it's adjusted properly.

If it doesn't have a slip clutch they're generally pretty easy to add aftermarket.

There could be a different PTO speed between the tractors.  I seem to remember that there was a 1500 rpm PTO speed on some of those Jap tractors.

Edit:  I guess I was remembering some of the Simplicity built garden tractors.  The 5020 and 5030 are both 540 rpm PTO's------you should be fine.
