I have a 6 volt WF  and a twelve volt radio that i would like to have on it. Is there some sort of converter to make 6 volt into 12 volt ?  OR   could a 12 volt generator or alternator work without changing all the parts ???  Thanks J

There may still be suitable 6 volt in, 12 volt out DC to DC converters. I built one back about 1968 with a couple power transistors, power diodes, and a toroid core wound with 12 gauge wire.

Besides voltage solid state radios are picky about polarity, another complication.

It is possible to convert a 6 volt tractor to 12  volts usually takes a battery, a new voltage regulator, sometimes a 12 volt generator, though electrically a 12 volt alternator performs better, new lamps, new ignition coil or a resistor for the old one, and conversion to negative ground. Lots of trouble for a radio. You might find a 6 volt radio for an early 60s vintage car in the junk yard but that's a long shot.

As a simplified alternative you could install a battery box with a small battery (say garden tractor size) just to run the radio and charge it in the shed overnight before neediing the radio. Or just carry a transistor radio. My pseudo ipod has an AM FM radio in the tiny package from SanDisk called a Sansa.

why not buy a set of peltor radio ear muffs ?? 40 to 55 bucks and they would sound better then a fender mounted radio and way cheaper then converting 6 to 12v.
