Is D 17 diesel rear end gears the same as wd45 diesel rear end gears?

If you mean are they the same ratio I'm not sure. If you mean will they interchange I don't think so.

The matched ring and pinion set fot the WD-45 Diesel and the D-17 (prior to S/N 38899) have the same part number; 245766 according to my WD-45 and D-17 Parts books.

Mitch says that putting D17 rear gears in a WD45 is a common upgrade for pullers. He also said if I wanted higher ground speed on my D17D to swap in a WD45 ring and pinion.
