I's always been somewhat of a pain to reach up under the hood on my G to hold the 5/16" nuts while turning the bolts from the top with a large screw driver.

So I spent most of yesterday designing, making a pattern, and producing a pair of straps to replace those nuts.

I was pleased enough with the outcome that today I made another pair.

If anyone has the hood off their G and will be putting it back on in the next few days, would like to try these, for the cost of shipping I will send this second pair.

I got tired of it too! I installed rivet nuts in mine several years ago

Joe, I like the river nut idea. I have a kit, the tool and some different sizes of rivet nuts. I thought of using it but if I remember right the largest is 10-32, which I've used up, and didn't know there are larger ones.

Looking at the spec. charts you would have to us the 1/4-20, or have to drill the base/end piece out to 1/2" in order to use the original 5/16" bolts.

And I sure would use some anti-seize. A little rust and I would think those rivet nuts would spin. Then how do you get them out?

Dusty, you can get them up pretty big, I went with 1/4-20 a stainless bolt and a small polished stainless flat washer. I do keep anti-seize on them and just snug them down. I had one come loose once, you just have to carefully grind the head off.

I riveted 1/4" nut plates on mine.
