Hey everyone, i recently just got my great grandfathers 1949 model c tractor running after sitting for 9 years.  im interested in finding a belly mount sickle mower for it because the tractor used to have one on it.  How do i know if a mower i find will fit it? is there a certain model number? Thanks.

You're looking for what most refer to as the B/C sickle mower.  It fits both the B and C.

Well there will be 2 pieces of square tubing with flat ends on them pointing to the rear that mount on the drawbar.  Toward the front there will be a piece of angle iron, or flat steel that has 2 holes in it to mount on the front of the torque tube on both sides.  They are either 5 foot or 6 foot cutter bars and here is a picture of ours mounted on our '45 C.  Hope this helps.

On a related note (maybe this will even help the original poster) what would one of these sickle bars be worth? A guy near me wanted 500 for one that needed paint but was in good mechanical shape and had all pulleys, brackets etc... was that a fair price? I passed on it last summer because I thought it was a bit high.

500 is a fair price. I've seen them go above that for a completely rebuilt one. I've also seen a few fence row specials (completely seized and rusted) go for 100.
