I have a Duall  loader on my 1951 WD.  Well the cylinders are leaking quite a bit.  The lift cylinders have a 3" diameter threaded packing gland with 2 notches in it directly across from each other.  .  Will I have to make a spanner wrench for this or are they available?  Also what is used as packing on those cylinders?

On my cylinder that tilts the bucket the packing gland has 2 small holes like it requires a spanner wrench like the ones that are used on a 4" grinder only bigger.

I would appreciate any help or advice.   Thanks.

Takle two pieces of flat iron at least a foot long, drill a hole in each end.  Bolt  them together on one end.  For the round hole nuts, find a bolt of that dia and cut off the head, put 2 bolts in the ends with two nuts.  For the notched nuts, grind flats on the bolts.  Packing is split rubber rings with reinforcing thread....you don't even need to take the cylinders off the loader.

A "C" type Vise Grip used in welding and fabrication will take the lift cylinder gland nut loose.      Ed

EldonWA has you on the right track !! iv'e found instead of useing the threads and shaft of a bolt , that finding a allen head bolt that the head fits in the hole works better ! the allen bolts are harder then woodpecker lips & and fitt tighter into the holes !

Hey that is 2 great ideas.  If I am lucky maybe I just need to tighten them????   Otherwise where can I get the rubbers to pack them.  Do I take out old rubber rings first and then put in new ones?    Thanks for the info...   Barry

I'd try tightening them up first. If that doesn't do it, take one out and measure it...a hydrualic supply house should have them.  My dad had an original Du-Al wrench for those packing nuts....he kept it in the tool box on the WD45D....It had a half circle with a couple of nibs on it, welded to a round handle...the handle always stuck out the hole in the end of those tool boxes.  He'd cinch the nuts up every so often....good luck!

Thanks Eldon.  I can't wait to try it tomorrow.  I am getting all of my hydraulic leaks fixed.  That is all that is left to fix.  I appreciate all of you guys help.    The WD just keeps getting better and better...   Also I am putting Pioneer quick connects on my PTO pump hoses so I can disconnect it easily for when I attach my brush mower..

Hey Brett:  That's funny. I like it.  Where does a fella find some of that "Woodpecker Lips" material?  I could use some every once in a while..............ha ha ha ........O_O

Why is there never time to do it right the first time, but always time to go back and fix it?
