Hello all,

More 17 Questions.

I purchased what I thought was a gas tank, and a battery tray for my D17 series II,  The tank is very so slightly larger and will not fin in the area alotted, and the battery tray seems to be oriented 90 degrees different than the one I have on the tractor now.  I wonder if the fire slightly warped the mounting brakcet?  I looked in the many books, and the parts manual, and it appears that the tanks were never different across the different series, I am not sure about the air cleaner.  Any idea?

Thanks,

Anthony

I'm guessing you have D19 parts

Well, we have a D19 Diesel, and as far as the tank goes it's not, the D19 tank is significantly larger, the tank I have is maybe only a 1/2" from sitting down where it should.  I have no idea about the battery tray, the one on the tractor right now, has the battery sitting long axis parallel to the tractor, the one I bought, has it rotated 90 degrees, so the long axis is across the tractor.  I am wondering if this is the 6 volt early tray vs. the 12 volt later models?

Regarding the gas tank, there are 2 studs on the bottom.  If they are not sitting in the holes that they are supposed to, that could explain your extra 1/2".  For the battery tray, I don't think there were any 6 volt D17s.  However, the tray could be different depending on the air cleaner.  I'll have to look at my Series IV to see which way it goes.

The battery tray is the same for all the D17 gas tractors. The D19 gas used the same battery tray as the Diesel but they only used the right side for 1 12 volt. The D19 propane used a different battery tray and it sonds like this might be the one you have. The battery sat in the middle of the tractor. The battery sat cross ways right in front of the fuel tank. The tray is also a little narrower and longer. so it would fit between the fuel tank and the engine. Allis used a group 24 battey in the d19 gas and d17 and the d19 propane was a 29nf which is a narrow long battery. Hope that helps Matt

May be possible the battery tray is from a D17 diesel, which was designed for two 6 volt batteries
