Is there any difference in a BIG AL truck engine compared to an engine out of a crawler or scraper ?

i would think so as BIG AL was set for 450 flywheel HP, so I am sure the pistons/nozzles would be different

The info I have seen says it was avaliable at 350 to 450 hp ; but also 2 different styles 21000 and 25000 ; I guess turboed and intercooling did that ? Maybe ?

yes, depending on application, ther can be a number of differences-oil pan&pickup, accessory brackets & pulleys, exhaust manifolds, turbo pressure tube, oil manifolds, front engine bracket, flywhl housing, flywhl to accept truck clutch, inj pump&gov.settings.the basic engine and cam are the same.the best crank is from a 1974 or newer truck or scraper application.the best crank is a snub nose which would make you turn to a 6138.they did alot of updates between 69-74,so i would search for a engine 74 or newer.you might have to round up parts from several differant engine apps to complete a truck app.i even got parts off a 4w305 for my rebuild.the hardest part to find would be the flywheel to accept the 15.5" spicer clutch.if you need help give me a shout.219-405-3286 jack
