Subject: A/C C air filter conversion

Hi, I'm new to tractors and this forum and had a couple of questions about the A/C "C" tractor I recently bought. Does anyone know if there is a conversion kit to go from the original oil bath air filter setup to a paper filter setup? And if so, is there any benefit in changing it over? The steel mesh in the filter housing doesn't look like it would filter out much, maybe paper is better?

When the oil is kept clean and at its proper level and when the cap and filter are properly maintained, the original "oil bath" system is quite effective.
Unless you've jacked up the RPMs and increased the carb size a great deal as, for say, pulling, the original filter is fine. JMHO

The original oil filter is better than any paper filter you can get. the mesh only provide a path for the oil to drip back into the cup. if its clean the oil does all the filtering. unless you plan on doubeling the rpm and flowing more air than it can clean keep the oil bath.

Thanks for the information, I don't plan on changing the RPMs or anything. I'm not clear on how the oil bath works though. It has a small loose (non secured) sediment bowl sitting in the bottom of the clip on cap, and there is no bottom to the sediment bowl. Is this how it should be?

there should be a tube attached inside the bottom of the cup it has 3 holes drilled in it. Air comes in the top of the cannister assembly its a straight tube sticks down below the bottom of the cannister and into the oil. ther is an oil level line inside the cup this keeps that tube submerged. air is drawn through the oil up into the outer mesh area of the cannister and thru the tube into the carb. the oil catches the dirt as the air goes thru it.
