How can someone walk off with a sign like that?
|
Posted By: Matt MN
Date Posted: 24 Mar 2011 at 7:26am
Wow, $35,000 worth of shingles??
Figure $30 per bundle would be about 1,167 bundles.
Average of 70lbs per bundle would be about 81,000 lbs worth, that would require 2 semi's to haul it off, plus the equipment to load it or enough people to load it?? Sounds a little fishy?

And it's getting worst, We're always finding something missing from farm and shop. A few weeks ago they broke into shop and cut-took all copper wiring-tubing and cut copper leads off welders and battery chargers & chop saw. And got heating coils and such from heating business next door to us! I would love to catch them! As I would be one in jail though because they wouldn't be around any longer.

Jim, maybe if you posted some identifying info about the sign on this site, if it came up for sale anywhere, an Allis collector might be able to spot it and give a lead on the thief/thieves. Bob@allisdowneast

Once had an australian shepperd dog. He only liked immediate family members. Hated everyone else and thought his name was on the deed. Nothing stolen the 13 years we had him. Once was 6 months with out a dog and had stuff stolen twice during that time. Nothing beats a good dog. Bill

Stealing a sign like that, then what? Can't put it up to display since they're so unusual. The stealing "scrap" or pulling all the copper wiring out of a barn doesn't surprise me. Here about a week ago someone stole about half of the water faucets (brass) used on the Iowa State Fair camp grounds for camper water hookups. They caught an older couple from Mingo Ia who say "The faucets were given to us. We had no idea they were stolen." Yeah right. It wasn't reported on the news where they took them, but I'd bet they either took them to Alter's in DSM or Car Country in Newton.

We have been noticing a few loose parts that come in on used equipment missing and didnt think much of it. Monday morning we went to load a tractor that was sold and the batterys were missing, after final count we lost 27-28 batteries out of equipment on lot.

Only one thing worse than a thief, that is another thief who will buy items the first thief stole.
After loosing all my tools many years back along with a lot of inventory from shop i was renting I got a real aversion for these scum.
Had a guy use my loader on job site , ended up breaking a axel on machine , took lein against his property to get paid. After that said I will call cops and have anyone arrested for theft if i ever find anyone using equipment, no matter who.
Same for the thief who is found on my or anothers property or in posession of anothers property.

A few years ago I hauled my D 21 on a 2 year old 25' gooseneck trailer to the Farm Science Review near London Ohio. I left the trailer there, in a lot marked off, as did 75 other people. Went back after the show was over and guess what... trailer gone. It was never recovered.

Wayne show next weekend April 1 2 &3.There featuring Allis Chalmers.

Yes,but whats worse yet is when its family!!!Last spring I noticed somethings moved around in my barn.Couple days later things moved around again also strange footprints in the mud, along with strange tire tracks in the driveway. So I camped out in my truck inside the barn for two nights and caught the SOB. Turned out to be a cousin,SHE was looking for my grandfathers high priced western saddles,he passed away the fall before!! I moved the saddles to the house before he passed.
Dont trust anyone today !!!!

As ridiculous as it sounds, a few years ago a neighbor had some things stolen.......ran a "wanted" ad for some of the items in a local tabloid.......and, yep, the thieves called and tried to sell some of them to him. Sheriff got em'. Unfortunately, that does not happen often enough.

Its a shame, where is the old America where you can leave your doors unlocked and you let your neighbors watch the house when you were gone, sure is sad..
I will always go by this, just need a gun though: Trespassers will be shot, Survivors will be shot again.

I had my house robbed about 6 years ago, the cops got them 2 or 3 days later the only things I got back were a 1911a1 and a duffel bag that traveled the world with me, and still does by the way, but the 2 guys were convicted of 4 felonies each and still as far as I know havent done any time, but I did get restitution oh yeah a total of 33.00 that is right $33.00, over the last 6 years, the 33 eas suposed to be monthly for the duration but no one cares. The lady at the court house says I cant call him a sleeze bag I told her real quick where to stick her oppinions and to do her job , needless to say the stealing thing is a touchy subject with me and it is getting my blood pressure up so I am done.

We've had a few run ins with the busses. Over the winter we've had people steal the cords we use to plug the block heaters in. We've had our radios stolen not VHF, UHF (more costly and somebody who knows what they're looking for can tell the difference and all of our busses are VHF except the 5 that were UHF) and two days later we hear talking from dump trucks coming on our frequency. hmm... we rent the tower for that frequency and it only goes about 40 miles. Nobody has ever used that besides us and the day after the radios are stolen, truckers building the interstate are using them? that was frustrating. Can't remember what came out of it but I think the chatter disappeared after a couple of weeks.

Gentlemen, This is not new. I remember when I was at AA County Farmer's Supply, one of our fellow dealers in Anne Arundle County, man came in inquiring about a used H Farmall that was for sale. I remember Bing, the service - salesman, saying "It's right out there on the lot" Customer came back and stated he could not find it. Bing, went to look so we joined him. I remember the suprise when he saw that tracks of the tractor going to the loading ramp. Hey, this was in the late 50's. There were thieves even then. Never heard of he found out who and got the tractor back.
Come to think of it, our shop was broken into and tools stolen.
Guess things don't change too much.
Good Luck!

I stopped at autozone last night and the guy told me he was putting a battery in for a customer and set it down to go in and get a new cable and while he and the battery customer were in the store some one stole the battery. Less than 5 minutes total.

A fellow in the twin cities had lost tools several years ago and he kept watch9ing papers and looking at craigs list and one day (about 3 years later) he ran across a bunch of tools that were being listed on craigs and called the fellow up and went and looked at them. Sure enough they were his with his etchings on them yet. Told the fellow that he would have to go and get some money and went down the road and picked up his cell phone and called the police and just sat there and watched until they showed up and then he came back and identified his tools and the police took pics of them for evidence and then gave the tools to the rightful owner. Never heard what happened to the scumbag that stole them. Should have given him a public flogging in the middle of town and then put a big branding iron on his forehead that said "THEIF" for all to see. And the next time he gets caught, be missing fingers. .. Some country's punishment is if you get caught, your life expectancy is shorten to just hours..

Had my two row planter setting by the road for yard art. Was working in the shed and noticed a truck drive by.Out where I live I know about everybody who drives my road Didnt recognize the truck.but the two guys where eyeing the planter pretty hard. Didnt look like AC fans, kind of gave me a weird feeling. so I hooked it to the B, and drug it back by the barn. With the price of scrap I wouldnt be surprised if I had left it out by the road it wouldnt have been there in the morning.

Three places broke into a week ago in my area. They are taking iron mostly, but here's the kicker, a lot of fellas by me who farm are also deer hunters and even the ones who don't hunt have been putting up those wildlife motion activated cameras because of all the thefts in the area over the last year and a half and the thieves have caught on to this as well and steal the cameras or just take hammer to them. Nice huh!!! I hate to say this but I can see a time coming when it might not be a good idea to call the police anymore and just have property owners take care of the thief problem themselves. What the police don't know won't hurt them. Enough said!

One of the mega farmers in my area, hired a cut rate trucking outfit to haul all of his grain. A neighbor was behind this trucker in line, and noticed the trucker filled out that he was the owner of this load of grain. The neighbor notified the mega farmer, and they did a little checking. So far, from one elevator, they have 11 semi loads a year for 11years, at an average of $4 a bushel. I wonder if this could be a record.
