I am cleaning the brakes housing on the 1940 model B  and I have  most of the crud cleaned out but there is a small area I cannot get with any of my tools  it located in the curve of the housing  I tryed getting the 4 bolts off to take the final drive off  but 2 bolts are not moving at all.  if you go from the bottom of the housing I can feel it but I can't get to it with any tools   any ideas?  thanks

Probably use a pressure washer, just be sure you have good eye protection. Have you soaked the bolts with PB Blaster or anything like that? Have you gotten the brake bands out yet. If not tie a piece of stiff wire to them and pull it through. That will help get the new bands back in. That crud has been building up for almost seventy years so it will be tough.

Those final drive bolts are not going to twist of so just get a longer handle on the wrench. If the longer handle doesn't move, then get a longer handle yet.

i clean out the brake housings by poking with a screw driver to get as much loose as possible, then use an air blow gun with a 1/8 inch copper or stainless tube about 2 ft long on the end (gas or brake line).. bend it around, then poke it inside the housing and wobble around. cover your eyes.  I stick a plug in the bottom hole, put 4-5 oz of dishwater soap in the top and a quart of water. Let it set a few minutes, pull the plug and stick a hose inside and wobble around... then blow out with air again.

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Try the 50/50 ATF and Acetone mixture, information in another post was very interesting, and heres a good way to test out the info, if you need a better degreaser, use Purple Power", and let soak, do not get it on your hands or nice paint though, as it will kill the top layer of your skin like a sunburn, and it dissolved the paint in my parts washer tank.

That Purple degreaser hs the same ingredient in it a Oven cleaner. Caustic.  I was using it to degrease my steel wheel tractors and switched to the Easy Off Oven cleaner. Faster and cheaper. Just make sure you use rubber gloves, overalls and eye protection!!

After the screw driver and other tools I bent a Wire coathanger into a squigly shape and poked in from the bottom and used Air Blower in the top finished it off with brake cleaner.
