I'm in the process of buying a house and about 7 acres in north GA, and will need a small tractor. The WD will be in the shop at the house for TLC and my other tractor is staying at my parents house to maintain the property and plow. I'm looking for something that's going to be maneuverable with plenty of power to bush hog, finish mower, plow food plots, maintain a long driveway, etc. Are parts for the 5030 and 5040 easy to come by and are they in general good tractors. I'm open to suggestions and recommendations for other make/models as long as it's not a Deere. Thanks ------------- AC - WD JD - 650 |

The 5040 is basically a Universal (from Romania) tractor painted orange. Personally, I would look for a D15 series II (46 hp gas). I've heard good stuff about the 5050's but thing it's more hp than I need.
Any opinions on the 6140 or 160. I'd like to go with something newer than a D series.
Are UTB tractors not any good? Were these 5040s built to AC specs, basically built better than a UTB? ------------- AC - WD JD - 650 |

I think only 499 6140s made it to the states from Japan - Very scarce. There are plenty of 160s around, but parts supply is a problem. The 5040s were not built to AC specs as far as I know. I looked at a , I think 3010 New Holland , looks like a Fiat 5040 with different sheet metal. |

hi i have a 5040 and i love it it is my baby it is a great tractor parts are pretty avilable and i use mine to spread manure with our new holland 155 spreader which is rated for use of at least 50 hp but she runs it fine

the 5040 was built in romania, it is basically a copy of a fiat tractor, that was marketed with the allis chambers colors, it is comparable to the 1250a/1255 oliver/cockshut tractors.
i have a 1970 model, fiat built oliver model 1355, that has been an excellant tractor, it has given over forty years of superior service, the only thing i have rebuilt was to put a new thrust bushing in the front end.
 there is an excellant parts source for the tractors online at import tractor parts, and they have a very good primer on these tractors as to what to expect in these tractors
