Am looking at a 200. Someone said they made them with 2 diffent engines.Anyone know year or serial when model changed?

200 had the same engine from start to end. 301 CI

Wasn't there engine improvements sometime during the 200 production? Like a bigger cooling fan and such. Seems I read something once like going to a Mark II 2900 about half way through production. I could be wrong.

All 200's had a larger cooling fan with more blades with dual fan belts that ran less RPM's over the 190XT. All 200's had dual eng oil filters and crank driven oil pump and oil pan that held 4 gallons total oil with filter change. The first piece of literature produced had a 190XT engine because it only had one oil filter on it. All 200's had a AirResearch turbo that was more efficient and 15 to 1 compression ratio instead of 16 to 1 like an XT. Copper injector tubes in the cyl head were never used in a 200 and began with the 7000 tractor.

Thanks for the info. My original inquiry was due to a concern brought up by my brother that some 200s were harder starters than others. Overall, I remember the 200 had more cold start problems than both earlier and older models. Was there a reason for that? Also, was the 200 turbocharged?

200's started harder due to lower 15 to 1 compression ratio and higher injector pressures (3450 psi)...they ran better but cold started harder as a rule. ALL had a turbo !!

There you have it. The lower compression might account for the harder starting. Never owned a 200 or did much work on one other than repaired brakes, tilt steering mechanism once, and replaced gasket between turbo and manifold once and all that was almost 20 years ago. All 200 tractors were turboed.
