The engine is wonderful until (or if) you have trouble with it. The rest of the tractor is rugged but a dry foot clutch and a non-power shift transmission. Also the FWA engage isn't on-the-go. If you are moving up from an old 7040-7045 with a Power Shift trans, you might think you went little backwards, but gaining an FWA. If you are moving up from a Power Shift 8030 FWA or 8050 FWA, you are going backwards.

We have a 9130 FWA, it is a simple but tuff tractor.  I'm looking for another one also.

Try to find 9130 that the pump hasnt been turned up on at under 150hp the motor will last along time the 9150s were on the edge at 150 plus hp and if they were turned up they had problems streching head bolts the 374 engine is very good also for those that own them to the left of the turbo is a thermostat that sends oil to spin the cooling fan there is a 10mm bolt with washer unscrew take off washer and screw back in this will send oil continually to fan you might use a little more fuel but you wont have an issue of fan not spinning due to small  piece of contaminate in your oil causing potential overheating

We have 9170 Deutz Allis orange version. Purchased it used for Ohio. Look at the brakes and drive around applying them. If they squeal or are grabbing they will need to be replaced, which entails splitting the tractor. Learned this out the hard way, brakes were dropping metal chips into the transmission and locking it up so that it would not move. Dealer split the tractor 2 times before finding this. They are good powerful tractors that will work. On the down side they don’t turn short and don’t start easy in cold weather (40 and below). The cabs are very quiet and you won't ever have to fill a radiator or repair leaking sleeves( air cooled).

from behind the clutch, it is a WHITE tractor, including the over/under 3 speed power shift. Should be a very reliable tractor, and the WHITE cabs are pretty nice.

Keep engine clean, and replace valve cover gaskets about evey 3 years, use good oil and change at proper intravels those things will last for ever!!!. Updated version of a WHITE tractor like ed said. We have a Deutz engine in our GLEANER, never have had an issue tough torqing engines.

We owned a 9190 for 13 years, it was 4 yrs. old when we bought it, fluid all the way around including the frnt. tires, it would pull right with our 8550. Doc's right about the deutz engines, you have to account for every little leak or you will have high dollar trouble later. The chassis is basiclly a WFE 2-155,2-180. Also as talked about the brakes need to be updated if they are expected to live on the fwa tractors, alot of this was caused by the longer wheel base. The 9170/9190 tractors are like a 8070 fwa on steroids. , Mike
