I bought a B with a set of 12.4-24 "Gum Dipped" Firestones on bad rims. I called the tire shop today to price some rims and the tire guy says that I have too much tire and I should buy a set of 9.5-24 or 8.3-24. The 12.4's are in good shape, but I do think it would look better with narrower tires, so my question is: Is there any resale market for used tires this age, and if so, about what are mine worth? They have a lot of tread left althought they do have a few cuts, but nothing serious. Is it worth my time to list them on e-bay? I am new to the used tire business and would appreciate any help.

Tires are very expensive, wheels arent cheap either. If it were mine I would buy some 10-24 wheels and use your tires. I think the B looks good with some husky rubber on it. Used tires are all over the place on price,somebody restoring one might be intrested in them if they dont want to spend$5-600 on new tires. The gum dipped are good for pulling so they might have some value. I would try to get at least $100 out of them.

I usually pay $50 a piece for decent used tires from my tire supplier. By decent it means that there are no cuts, breaks or weather checking. The EPA disposal fee is probably about $50 so if you sold them for that you would be money ahead.

the early B & C had 8" rims and later ones had 10" rims. 11.2 tires work great on the 10" rim. I have 9.5 on my 2 B's with 8" rims and 11.2 on my 2 C"s and 3 ca'S on 10" rims. Bob

I asked about the same question and the best answer I got was.... Go to the http://www.millertire.com - http://www.millertire.com site and take a look at the FAQ's. They show the CORRECT tire size as a 12.4x24. The OLD number was a 9 or 9.5. I am now looking for some 12.4's or 13.6's for mine.

It sounds to me like the tire guy wants to make another sale. There is nothing wrong with having 12.4's on a B I wouldn't go smaller than an 11.2. You might want to look around , even put a want add on the classified section hear if your interested in some good used rims.

Buckeye I spent 20+ years owning a tire shop. My favorite thing to do was sell and install rear ag tires. Like the other posts say, the size you have will work fine, go to the 10" rims. If you keep the old tires, You might think about new tubes when you install the tires on the new rims, especially if they have had fluid in them. I have to cross a small stream to mow. My B has the same size tire and it lets me raise the belly mower a little higher .
