Hello, I am working on an 1940 WC that I put a Gleaner Engine in. The old motor gave it up and we had the whole gleaner engine setup available. The gleaner engine unit came with a 12 volt generator. I took it down and had it checked and the auto-electric shop said it was good. I was wondering if anyone had a wiring diagram laying around or know a site that has one to point me towards.. The delco regulator has the three pole setup. Any info is always appreciated. Thanks Jon B. Williams, Clarksville, Arkansas

Here is a diagram, but most important is the text at the top of the page. Anytime a genny is disconnected, it must be polarized after installation or you might let the smoke out of it. And you can't put the smoke back in once it wafts away on the breeze. http://dueyschutter.freeservers.com/photo5.html - http://dueyschutter.freeservers.com/photo5.html

Shouldn't make any difference as long as you have the right regulator for the generator. Polarity could be either way too as long as the regulator is set up for it and you polarize the generator before starting the engine.

Charley can I use a ford truck regulator that was for an alternator on a tractor with a 12 volt generator? I have one I would like to try to get charging without spending for a regulator.

An alternator regulator will not work for a generator, for one thing there is no cutout in the alternator regulator because the rectifiers in the alternator do that job, superbly.
Then probably the field connection and resistance is wrong.
You MUST have the correct regulator for the generator and the voltage. A 12 volt generator regulated to 6 volts charges great at low speeds like and alternator but it can require a custom regulator. I did that for a VW engine swap in 1968. But I built my first solid state regulator with a diode for a cutout.
