Here is a picture of the front bracket that hold the front axle and radiator. I haven't tested but pretty sure the bracket is cast iron and also the front axle itself. How is the best way to repair this and the axle. I have the axle off, the hole for the pivot pin is ok in the center of the axle but both the front and back edges are egg shaped. The front side of this bracket is ok.

| The bracket is cast iron. The axle is forged steel. You could bore both oversize and install bushings; I would recomend steel bushings. The axle hole could be welded up and re-bored, but it's probably easier to bore it and bush it. |

OK so there has to be 2 brackets , one in front and one behind axle. Looking at the hole , wear is on top so it could be welded up but both pieces then need to be bored so the pin lines up through axle. I would then make pin captive by welding a tab onto new pin to hold it from moving once set into re-machines front and back brackets . ------------- Faith isn't a jump in the dark. | What is your casting # .There where 2 differan ones for the U tractor with the UM engine .The later one is taller .I have ove from a Power Unit ,ofcorse it is like new at the pin holes .Or if you can find one out of a P/u close to you it would be a easy fix ,just make sure you check casting # |

I took mine to a good machine shop and had them bore both holes in the front casting and the hole in the axle out to make room for a steel bushing to be pushed into each. You can not even tell that there are bushings in them when you look at it now...if done right, the repair will never be visible to anyone. ------------- 1930 U 1938 A 1941 WF |
