Subject: 8070 fwa tire sizes?

I bought a 1985 8070 FWA today, it has 18.4 x 26 front tires that need replaced. They're including a decent used set of 16.9 x 26 bias tires. The rear are 20.8 x 38 radials.

I checked the manual when I got home and this is the factory combinations it lists
Front                                         Rear
13.6 x 28                                  18.4 x 38
14.9 x 28                                  20.8 x 38 or 18.4 x 42
14.9 x 24                                  16.9 x 38

No mention of 18.4 x 26 or any 26" tires. Are the 18.4 x 26 factory? I'm planning on putting new radial tires and I'm wondering what size to go with

16.9 x 26 are a combine tire. they are the same height as a 14.9X28. When I bought my WD45 it had one on it. I used it like that till the next spring when I went back to the place I bought from they found the lost wheel and tire after snow melt.

I would stay with the 18.4. We had 14.9 with 20.8 on the rear and over time the bars ripped apart on the 14.9. We like the 18.4 better but we are also still on 36" rows. They seem to match the speed of the 20.8 rears better.

Our 8070's are S.N. 3148 and 3153. What is yours?

I forgot to look and the tractor won't be delivered until next week.

I talked to a guy at work and he said his 8070 had 16.9 x 26 fronts on it.

I think I'm going to put 18.4 radials on it.

Just replaced mine, 16.9RX28. Bought some radials--BKT's. Paid only $500 each! Rears are 20.8R X38's Frank/mi.

ok i know this is my first post, but do not go with the 18.4s on the front. you will wear the front axle out. when we bought our 8050 it had 20.8r38's with the 18.4r26 on the front. that is mismatched. now with a 20.8r42 a 18.4r26 is right.   go with the 16.9r26's you will save money down the road by not having to rebuild the front axle gears.

Does anyone know of an on line tire guide that gives the circumference of various tire sizes? I'm pretty sure that 26" rims were not factory. I'm trying to find what the circumference of 14.9 x 28 tires was, versus 18.4 or 16.9 x 26.

14.9r28 and 16.9r26's are between 52 and 53 inches. 18.4r26 and 16.9r28's are 55 to 57 inches.

Pretty sure the 18.4s on the front was a factory option if not I've seen alot around, and in swinfords book the last 8070 built sure looks like thats what it had.

The 18.4's were a factory option, late in production, so they don't show up in most literature or operator books.

maybe they had a lower profile 18.4 that was the same height as the 16.9's would be.

OK, so 16.9 R26 should be close to what the factory would have put on and I don't think I really need the 18.4 tires.

My 8050 has 13.6 x 28 fronts and 18.4 x 38 rears and they work very well for me.

So does anyone have a definitve answer, I think I might be able to get 28" rims.
