I am in the process of buying an A-C model C this Saturday. I am wondering what I should be looking for? Such as problem areas, what is usually wrong with them, what to look for. According to the pics he has sent me, it really looks good. But paint can hide a lot. Come on guys, pick this little baby apart and tell me all the good things and also the BAD things with this model. I don't know what year it is yet. Taking the list of serial #'s with me. Thanks ALL. Nothing special to look for as far as a weak point on a C. No play in the stearing is a plus. Good rubber is also a plus. Starts easy? Drive it out in all gears and feel if the governor is in good working order. Does the clutch feel and act right? Are the brakes good? Deduct from the asking price for oil leaks bad brakes or loose stearing. These things can be fixed but not cheap. Engine should sound normal and not smoke and have decent oil pressure. No water in the oil.

If Cs set out in the weather much, the rear fenders rusted out quick. They were factory painted after assembly and there is a large area between the fender and the fender brace that was raw steel. Made a great rust sandwich. Nobody currently reproduces a true C fender. Fortunatly the rust out area of the fenders is flat and can be cut out and patched up pretty easy.

A adjustable wide front or a single front wheel C is a bit more collectable than the most common narrow front models.

I own a C good little tractors. There is not much that can go wrong with them. If it looks good and runs good get it. Be sure when you start it up to let it get to operating temperature and check all the fluids.

The cast blocks holding the rears rims to the wheel centers work loose and wear. Look for slippage marks oround the blocks and listen for pops when starting, backing and turning.
