Hello, All,

I'm buying a 1942 AC model c, and I'd like to know if I can convert the tricycle front end to a wide front end? I'm having a little problem locating a conversion kit/axle, and this prompted my wondering as to if this can be done. Thank you.

They could be bought as a single wheel, tri-cycle or wide front. Keep an eye on e-bay. Check tractor salvage yards as well. I need a tricycle axle and hubs for mine. If you find a wide front, I could be interested in your leftover parts.

I'll keep you posted if I find a wide front. I don't want the tricycle (grandfather was killed on tricycle, family still uncomfortable with them.)

We have plenty of wide fronts out west...I have a couple to sell. You will need the front bolster when switching nf to wf.

Take the 4 bolts out of the bottom of the bolster. Alot easier than changing bolsters and you can shim the gear up at the same time.

not original , but you can always put a B front axle and gearbox on the C. Cheap and easy.

We have one that has some weld repairs. Kinda ugly but the price would be right at $195. Might have nicer ones in the $400 range. Bill

Duckwacher: You have a very good reason to avoid a tricycle front end. I used a narrow front C on a farm for over ten years. The farm is in Pa and part of it is hilly. I never felt insecure with narror front, but for years I wanted a widse front C. A couple of years ago, I purchased a Wide Front to use on a Woods mower. I would never want thewide front after using it. It is okay but is not as handy as the narrow front and takes a lot more space to turn around. If I had only one C, I would vote for the narrow front.

Thanks, to all. I'm going to leave this one original, and once I've completed the restoration I will purchase a model w/ a wide front. We've got plenty of tractors on our farm, they're all green, and this will be the first AC I've ever owned. Now, the employees in my cabinet shop might be a little surprised when they enter into the paint room one day to find a tractor sitting in it ready to be sprayed....
